Summer is here and, although in southern Spain we are used to having this hot weather most part of the year, it is good to find a refreshing way to enjoy this hot season.
Being hydrated during the hottest months is essential to replace all the vitamins and mineral that we lose sweating. This drinks that we are going to propose for you will be the best internal cooling system. So, take note of all these recipes so you can shared them in a hot afternoon with your friends.
Lemon iced tea:
The most famous and popular drink to fight the heat is obviously a cold lemon iced tea, Did you know that this drink got popular thanks to the movie “Los puentes de Madison” starring Clint Eastwood? There you have a cool tip to share also with the drink.
Also, lemon itself has a lot of digestives benefits, it can relieve a sore throat and it has a lot of hydrating and purifying enzymes to de intoxicate blood.
This is the perfect drink to enjoy in a terrace of a cool hostel during this heat wave, to entertain visitors at home or just to relax after a hot and exhausting day.
Morir soñando:
This is a typical drink from Dominican Republic, possibly the official summer drink of Dominican Summer. Delicious, nutritive and refreshing it combines milk and citric in a powerful way. For some people this combination might sound strange but, believe us, it is amazing!
And of course, is not only about it being delicious. Also, it is very healthy due to the high amount of vitamin C and calcium in it, a piece of the Caribbean in your hands.
Melon Mojito:
If the mojito itself is an exotic and refreshing drink, imagine having a melon mojito. Yep, like you read. Sounds amazing right? Well, it is.
With or without alcohol, with its traditional mint leaves and lemon juice this simple but tasty mojito can become the star of any pool party. Just decorated as usual, with some mint leaves and lemon slices.
Watermelon lemonade:
When is hot outside all your body wants is a refreshing drink. You can make the traditional juices and drinks in a matter of minutes with the ingredients we have in our fridge but, sometimes we don’t know how to combine the fruits to get delicious drinks. So, trust us. This drink tastes as good as it sounds.
Just squeeze a little bit of lemon, some slices of watermelon to add taste and color to it and the final touch: some mint leaves with crushed ice. It will make you forget its even summer!
Gazpacho:
Have you ever heard of the famous tomato Spanish gazpacho?
Gazpacho is possibly Spain’s most famous chilled drink. The main difference aside from the temperature is that it’s raw, meaning that is not actually cooked it’s just blended and chopped vegetables and occasionally bread.
In Andalusia, most gazpacho recipes typically include stale bread, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, onion and garlic, olive oil, wine vinegar, water, and salt. We know, it sounds kind of cold tomato soup. But we guarantee you its super refreshing and delicious.
Indian Masala Chaas.
Masala chaas is one such Indian summer essential that is made with curd and host of spices such as salt, black salt, roasted cumin powder and black pepper powder. Chaas helps keep the body cool and also aids digestion, both of which are very essential to look after during summers.
Sangria.
Of course, we couldn’t finish this article without naming Spanish famous sangria. To make it just mix a simple syrup by combining the sugar, water and the end fruit slices in a small saucepan and simmer until the sugar dissolved. Cool to room temperature.
Combine remaining sliced fruit, wine, brandy and triple sec in pitcher. When cool, add simple syrup mixture, including fruit slices. Refrigerate for several hours to chill and allow flavors to meld. Serve over ice, adding sparkling water to taste.
This recipe is very adaptable: feel free to go nuts with whatever fruits or juices you have on hand: sliced peaches, berries, pineapple juice and orange juice are especially good additions.
